| The
Client for this project had an idea for a new product intended for
the disability market. The height adjustable basin was designed and
prototyped outlining the concept. At this stage he brought the prototype
to us for assistance on redesigning the product to enhance the aesthetics
and to make it suitable for volume manufacture at low cost.
We
redesigned the control system to provide preset height increments
and to allow a single button press to automatically adjust to
that height. The user remembering their setting, could easily
adjust the basin to the required height, particularly useful
for wheelchair and elderly users alike.
The
transport system was also examined and cost reducing changes
made to remove maintenance and reduce manufacturing costs.
The
basin was designed with three market places in mind: Home, Residential
homes and Hospitals. The design has features to suit each one.
Extensions
to the design allow remote activation of the unit from a doorway
selector panel. This allows all the facilities of a residential bathroom
to be automatically set to the programmed settings of the user as
they enter.
A
prototype and full manufacturing documentation was produced for
each version.
